The Aim of military Adventurous Training (AT) is to develop, through authorised challenging pursuits and within an outdoor environment, leadership and the qualities necessary to enhance the performance of military personnel during times of peace and war


Joint Service Canoe/Kayak Scheme

The Joint Service Canoe/Kayak Scheme is delivered from dedicated centres both in the UK and overseas, and meets the AT Aim through the delivery of structured courses for Open, Inland, Sea, and Surf disciplines. Almost all of the paddling disciplines have courses at foundation, progression, and instructor and leader level.

Joint Service Caving Scheme

The Joint Service Caving Scheme is delivered from JSMTW(R) in the UK and expeditions overseas, and meets the AT Aim through the delivery of structured courses that seek to develop the requisite skills necessary, to explore both non-vertical and vertical systems. Emphasis is places equally between aspects of safety and an awareness of the environment. Caving courses are run at all level these being Cave Proficiency, Single Rope Techniques, Cave Leader, Advanced Self Rescue Training and Caving Instructor.

Joint Service Parachuting Scheme

The Joint Service Parachuting Scheme is delivered from dedicated centres both in the UK and overseas, to meet the AT Aim through the delivery of structured courses that seek to develop the requisite skills and techniques necessary to complete parachute descents progressing from static line to freefall descents and Cat 4 to 8 to Grade proficiency. Ultimately, students can progress to preparedness for the BPA Basic Instructor Course.

Following the successful completion of courses, students are awarded service qualifications which in some cases equate BPA civilian course accreditation.

Joint Service Gliding Scheme

The Joint Service Gliding Scheme is delivered from dedicated centres both in the UK and overseas, to meet the AT Aim through the delivery of structured courses that seek to develop the requisite skills and techniques necessary, to conduct solo gliding, airmanship, navigation, air Law field landings, progressing to gliding instructor.

Following the successful completion of courses, students are awarded BGA certificates.

Joint Service Hang Gliding/Paragliding Scheme

The Joint Service Paragliding Scheme is delivered from dedicated centres both in the UK and overseas, to meet the AT Aim through the delivery of structured courses that seek to develop the requisite skills and techniques necessary to attain elementary, club and advanced pilot proficiency, air law, and codes of good practice, before attaining coaching skills and techniques necessary to progress to paragliding instructor.

Following the successful completion of courses, students are awarded service qualifications which in some cases equate BHPA civilian course accreditation.
