AT Centres

HQ JSMTC is based at Indefatigable on Anglesey, North Wales. It commands four Joint Service Mountain Training Wings (JSMTWs), located as follows:

      JSMTW (Indefatigable): at Indefatigable, on Anglesey, North Wales
     JSMTW (Scotland): in Argyll, Scotland
     JSMTW (Ripon): in North Yorkshire, England
     JSMTW (Norway): near Lillehammer, Norway (Nov to Apr only)

JSMTC Mission: ‘To train Service personnel as leaders and instructors in mountaineering, canoeing, caving, rock climbing and skiing in order to conduct these activities in their units’

Services Lead Centre: JSMTC is the Services Lead Centre for Summer Mountaineering, Winter Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Winter Climbing, Canoeing, Caving and Skiing

Nuffield Centre: JSMTC is also tasked to maintain, support and run the Nuffield Centre at Indefatigable for the use of Service personnel and their families for welfare, recreation and as a base for Level 2 AT activities. The Nuffield Centre has self catering family and dormitory accommodation, a camp site for tents, an indoor swimming pool, an indoor climbing wall and a sail centre that offers both dinghy sailing and powerboat handling courses

The Adventurous Training Group (Germany) (ATG(G)) was formed in April 1999 after a joint HQ UKSC(G) and HQ 1 (UK) Armd Div study into the future of Adventurous Training in Germany. 

ATG(G) provides the Command and Control for all AT activities involving  British Forces in Germany  and delivers specialised AT training from their dedicated AT facilities throughout  Germany.

Specific instructions with regards to AT planning for those based in Germany wishing to undertake AT can be found in the ATG(G) Level 2 and Level 3 Aide Memoire.

Equipment. The Catalogue of loan equipment held at Dulmen can be downloaded from here and the demand form can be downloaded from this link.  Units demanding equipment are reminded that the time line for demands is 60 days.  Any demands submitted inside the 60 days cut off period will be rejected.

For those personnel wishing to undertake Distributed Training, the application form can be downloaded from the 'Others' tab at this link.   Germany based units only should forward the application to HQ ATG(G), the application should usually accompany the JSATFA.

Cyprus Joint Services Adventurous Training Centre (CJSATC) is located on the East Coast of Cyprus, within the Eastern Sovereign Base Area (ESBA).   The Centre provides a full range of AT activities at Levels 2, 3 and 4, including, Parachuting, Sub-Aqua Diving, Off-Shore Sailing, Kayaking and Canoeing, Hill Walking and Rock Climbing.

Primarily CJSATC is remitted to cater for on-island troops but we also cater for visiting Exercise troops, visiting Expeds (ATG sponsor 22 per year in Sea Kayaking and Sub Aqua Diving) and up to 8 parachuting Expeds/Team training visits (Red Devils, Golden Lions etc), as well as providing course places to non-Cyprus troops on a fill-up basis.

CJSATC, Dhekelia conduct a variety of courses under the JSAT scheme. Course vacancies are allocated on a pro-rata Service and Sovereign Base Area (SBA) unit basis
